Bio Energy Innovation From Wellcamp To Haiti

30 May 2017

AN INNOVATIVE Toowoomba based engineering technology company, committed to bio futures, is using Wellcamp Airport for the first time today to send international air cargo to Haiti (May 30 2017).

Pyrocal Pty Ltd designs and manufactures advanced biofutures equipment (updraft gasifiers), which have already been supplied to several countries around the world, and are designed to convert bio mass into bio carbon, thermal energy whilst minimising greenhouse gas emissions.

Pyrocal managing director Mr Durell Hammond said Wellcamp Airport provided a convenient, controlled and a more direct process to send the company’s equipment to Haiti than other freight options.

“We have already sent one heavily subsidised machine to Carbon Roots International in Haiti so people have access to sustainable cooking fuel. Essentially, our innovation turns agricultural waste into carbon neutral cooking fuels for use in thirdKworld homes,” said Mr Hammond.

Carbon Roots International is a US based not for profit social impact enterprise.

“The machine will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create jobs and combat deforestation improving the livelihood of the country’s population,” explained Mr Hammond.

He said he anticipated at least one ‘jumbo worth of freight’ would be sent to Haiti through Wellcamp Airport over the next 12 months.

“It is extremely commercially viable sending the freight out of Wellcamp. The cost benefit of early delivery combined with the better quality control we have through our local airport makes for a very compelling freight option,” he said.

The company has previously used sea freight to Haiti but this process took three months longer than air cargo.

“Our freight forwarder DB Schenker Australia proposed using Wellcamp and Cathay Pacific as the best option for this freight requirement to Haiti,” said Mr Hammond.

Pyrocal’s freight will go to ToowoombaKHong KongKToronto and arrive in PortKauKPrince on Thursday.

Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport general manager Ms Sara Hales said the Pyrocal story was a fantastic example of how the airport continued to enable business through worldKclass infrastructure and air cargo capacity.

“We congratulate Pyrocal on their innovative product and their success in Vietnam, Canada, Germany, the USA, Wales, India and Haiti.

“This story is a fantastic illustration of the strength of the Cathay Pacific global network through their Hong Kong hub, which our region is connected to every week via the 747K8f direct cargo service from Wellcamp Airport,” said Ms Hales.
