GEITZ BOUNCES INTO NEW AIRPORT ROLE – AS WELLCAMP AIRPORT’S FIRST AMBASSADOR
18 November 2013
One of Australia’s leading sporting identities, netballer Laura Geitz, is the new face of Wellcamp Airport.
The appointment also coincides with the announcement Laura is a 2013 Queensland Sports Star of the Year finalist, alongside prominent athletes Adam Scott and Sally Pearson.
The captain of the Australian Diamonds and Queensland Firebirds teams, Laura, who grew up in Allora, says she is delighted to have her first ‘official’ role with a Darling Downs company.
“I’m so excited to be involved with Wagners and Wellcamp Airport. The Darling Downs will always be my home and I’m extremely proud and honoured to have been given this role,” says 26-year-old Laura, who also has sponsorship deals with Swisse Vitamins, Holden and Spartan Sporting Goods.
Laura’s first official duty as the Wellcamp Airport Ambassador will be at the airport’s open day on Sunday November 24, where she will meet the community, VIPs and airport officials at Australia’s first privately-funded public airport.
“I think Wellcamp Airport will have a huge impact on the Toowoomba region and beyond. It’s a fantastic piece of infrastructure that I’m sure will be embraced by everyone,” says Laura.
Laura started playing netball at her school, Scots PGC College in Warwick, when she was 13 and went on to represent Queensland and Australia at Under 17 and under 19 level.
She made her international début in 2008 with the Australian Diamonds and soon found international success as a silver medallist at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and a gold medallist at the 2011 World Netball Championships.
The 2011 season also saw Laura win an ANZ Premiership with the Mission Queensland Firebirds. At 24, she was awarded the ‘Liz Ellis Diamond,’ along with the ANZ Championship player of the year for her outstanding efforts during the 2011 season.
Laura’s ambition continues off the court where she continues to promote the sport of netball by giving back to young Australians, hosting clinics in country towns all over Queensland and offering tuition to aspiring netballers.
Laura is also extremely passionate about her clothing and sporting equipment brand – LG - which is expected to be launched in early 2014.
