CHARTER SERVICE FINDS NEW BASE AT AUSTRALIA’S NEWEST AIRPORT
15 May 2015
Charter flight company AERgO International has this month opened a new aircraft base at Australia’s newest airport, Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport (WTB).
The Queensland-owned company, which flew Gai Waterhouse into Toowoomba for the recent Weetwood racing festival, has setup an office and based its Beech 1900D twin prop, 19-seat aircraft at the airport to service increasing demand in business and leisure travel to South West Queensland.
Wellcamp Airport General Manager Phil Gregory welcomed the service as a boost for the airport and business confidence in the region.
“This extra connectivity is great news for local and interstate business travellers to access operations and events in regional Queensland,” Mr Gregory said.
“Travellers can now fly direct to Toowoomba on the existing scheduled Sydney-Wellcamp commercial airline flights and then directly on to other regional areas without being constrained by scheduled times and routes.
“While we have some charter services already coming through Wellcamp Airport, AERgO is the first to establish a permanent base here and we applaud their foresight.”
AERgO Commercial Operations Manager Jaimie Kennedy said while the majority of the AERgO’s aircraft would remain at other ports, Wellcamp was a ‘strategic’ move for the company.
“Wellcamp is growing in popularity and it’s the gateway to the Surat, Cooper and Bowen basins, and home to some of Queensland’s most significant business and mining operations,” Mr Kennedy said.
“Our new Wellcamp base will help companies consolidate their activities and cut travel costs considerably, a growing trend across the nation given the downturn in commodity prices.
“We can fly the Beech 1900D up to a three-hour radius without re-fueling so our charter flights are perfect for fly-in-fly-out workers, business groups travelling interstate and even leisure groups looking for a unique escape to places like Ayers Rock or the Hunter Valley.
“Unlike some small to medium sized charter aircraft, the Beech 1900D is just as comfortable as some of the aircraft used by other major airlines.
“This aircraft type has also been approved for use by the mining industry based on its safety features, twin engine performance, comfort and efficiency.”
